    • Electrical norms: The standard voltage is 220 V and the standard frequency is 50 Hz. In Spain the power plugs and sockets are of type F with two round pins and two earth clips on the side.
    • Water: Open the faucet, fill your glass and drink the water. In Madrid it is completely safe to do so.
    • Prices: All of the establishments include the service charge, but in the hotels and restaurants you can often find signs “IVA no icluido” or “VAT not included”. This means that the the price of what we ordered will be increased by 10%. In Madrid, tipping is entirely optional. Some restaurants may add a 2- or 3-euro charge onto the bill for bread or a small tapa.
    • Climate: Even though the climate in Spain is a warm temperate Mediterranean climate, since Madrid is in the interior, it has a more pronounced temperature differences, with colder winters (with the temperature around 6 over average in winter) and hot in the summer (25 degrees over average in July and August).

    OPENING TIMES 
    Post offices: open from 8am to 7pm, Monday to Friday, and from 8am to midday on Saturday. They are closed on public holidays. 
    Banks: open from Monday to Friday from 8.30 am to 2pm. Commissions are appreciably variable from one bank to another. It is better not to obtain change in banks located near the monuments and places of interest.
    Restaurants: Lunch in Madrid, is served from 2pm until 4pm and dinner from 9pm to 11pm. Restaurants in Madrid are often closed on Sunday nights and Monday mornings. At other times, you’ll always be able to find a snack or tapas in most tapas bars and café in Madrid.
    Shops: Most of the shops in Madrid and shopping centers are open from 10.00 (10am) to 20.30 (8:30pm) or 21.30 hours (9:30pm).
    Clubs: The majority of the clubs, nightclubs, discos in Madrid are open from Thursday to Saturday from midnight on. The closing time depends from one club to another, although it is normal to last until 6 a.m. or 7 a.m. 

    MAIN TOURISTIC PLACES
     
    Prado Museum - One of the world’s leading art galleries boasting works by Velázquez, Goya, El Greco, Titian, Rubens and Hieronymus Bosch, among others.
    La Gran Via - This is undoubtedly Madrid’s most iconic street. Nicknamed the “Broadway of Madrid” because of all the musical theatres found here, it is also jam packed with cinemas, restaurants, and fashion boutiques.
    El Retiro Park - Step away from the hustle and bustle of the city and spend a few hours relaxing in one of the Madrileños' favourite spots, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
    Royal Palace - The largest royal palace in Western Europe is a must-visit for all.
    Plaza Mayor - Madrid’s grand central square is found in the heart of Hapsburg Madrid, the oldest part of the city.
    Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum - Embark on a journey through seven centuries of European art, from the early 1200s to the late 20th century, taking in works by the likes of Dürer, Frans Hals, Gauguin, Van Gogh and Kirchner.
    Puerta del Sol - This bustling square located bang in the centre of Madrid is one of the city’s most famous sites.
    Cibeles Fountain - This wonderful fountain at the start of the Art Walk is one of Madrid's most renowned icons.
    Reina Sofia Museum - The Reina Sofia Museum houses one of the finest collections of contemporary art in the world, including Picasso's iconic Guernica.
    Santiago Bernabéu Stadium - Get behind the scenes of Real Madrid, explore the club's fascinating museum and step into the players' changing rooms!
     


    METRO 

    The Metro runs from 6am to 1.30am, with trains departing every 2 minutes in the morning rush hour and every 15 minutes in the early hours (after midnight). At weekends, trains are less frequent during the day. 
     
    All pay-per-ride tickets must be loaded onto the Tarjeta Multi, a contactless, transferable plastic smartcard that is valid for up to 10 years.
     
    The current fares are as follows:
    • Single ticket : Metro ticket (Metro Zone A and ML1): 1.50€ - 2.00€
    • 10-trip ticket : Metro Zone A, EMT (bus) and ML1 ticket (Metrobús): 12.20€
    • Children under the age of 4 travel for free.
